Space Rapid Capabilities Office The Space Rapid Capabilities Office, a direct reporting unit of the U.S. Space Force, has a specialized, restricted and unique mission. Delivering space capabilities quickly and effectively requires a strong core culture and mindset. The office’s short chain of command, direct connection to senior leadership and key operating principles cultivate speed to meet warfighter needs in operationally relevant timelines. Mission The Space RCO mission is to develop and deliver operationally dominant space capabilities at the speed of warfighting relevance. The Space RCO expedites delivery and deployment of space capabilities in response to the commander, U.S. Space Command requirements as assigned by the Board of Directors. Space Rapid Capabilities Office Work Programs are assigned to Space RCO by the Space RCO Board of Directors, chaired by the Secretary of the Air Force, driven by time-sensitive needs from CDR, USSPACECOM. The office then works with the operational community, test community and industry to match up requirements with what is technically, programmatically and operationally feasible in the timeframe of interest. Space RCO generally manages a dozen or so projects varying in scope and size, spanning space and tactical ground capabilities and covering both hardware and software aspects. Examples include three payloads launched on USSF-67 in January 2023, the Rapid Resilient Command and Control tactical ground software program, and the Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource ground communication program.
