Schriever Memorial Essay Contest, sponsored by the Lance P. Sijan Chapter of the Air Force Association and U.S. Space Force, recently announced its 2019 winners. The essay competition aims to stimulate thought, discussion and debate on matters relating how the Space Force and Air Force provide space capabilities for the joint force and the nation. Five submissions were recognized among the 15 submitted essays regarding the prompt: ‘How can Air Force Space Command [now USSF] learn from and apply the lessons of strategy, doctrine and tactics from operations in other domains such as air, land, sea and cyber?’ “Through this competition, we are encouraging innovation and outside-the-box thinking from the newest member of the United States Space Force to the most senior ranking officer or civilian,” said Maj. Gen. Stephen Whiting, U.S. Space Force deputy commander. “I’m constantly impressed by the depth of knowledge and forward-leaning thinking that come from our total force.” Participants submitted entries in two categories in October.
