JOHN J. DEENEY IV Mr. John J. Deeney, a Defense Intelligence Senior Leader, is the Technical Director for the United States Space Force Intelligence Directorate. In this capacity, he serves as a senior advisor to the Chief of Space Operations and is responsible to the Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Space Operations for policy formulation, planning, evaluation, oversight and leadership of Space Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. Prior to joining U.S. Space Force, Mr. Deeney spent four years in industry working as a specialty and systems engineer for Science Applications International Corporation, supporting multiple programs in Space Systems Command as well as supporting Space Readiness and Training Command’s National Space Test and Training Complex. His focus was on survivability, vulnerability and mission effectiveness modeling and simulation and integrated test and evaluation. Mr. Deeney spent almost 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, and before retiring last served as the Assistant Deputy Director of the ISR Operations Deputy Directorate, Joint Staff J-32. In that role he supported the CJCS and Secretary of Defense by recommending global allocation and employment of ISR capabilities for the DoD. Mr. Deeney is a native of Philadelphia and was commissioned in 1998 through Pennsylvania State University’s Air Force ROTC Det 720, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering. He is a career intelligence officer with operational experience in the Middle East and the Pacific and has deployed multiple times in support of operations Southern Watch, Northern Watch and Iraqi Freedom. Mr. Deeney held operational intelligence positions at the fighter squadron, fighter wing, air operations center, joint task force and multi-national force levels. His staff experience included tours in both the Joint Staff Intelligence and Operations directorates, and he commanded the 6th Intelligence Squadron at Osan Air Base, South Korea. He is a graduate and former instructor at the U.S. Air Force Weapons School and is a graduate of Army Command and General Staff College, as well as The Eisenhower School.
